Robinson, currently serving as North Carolina’s lieutenant governor, gained national attention after a speech last month in which he called for extrajudicial actions, saying, “Some folks need killing!” His comments, delivered during a speech in White Lake, North Carolina, sparked outrage and further polarized voters.
Robinson’s past is littered with incendiary remarks. He has referred to members of the LGBTQ+ community as “maggots,” questioned the gender identity of Michelle Obama, and even denied the Holocaust, labeling the murder of six million Jews as “hogwash.” Additionally, his association with an alleged cult leader and endorsement of antisemitic conspiracy theories have only added to the controversy surrounding his candidacy.
As the general election looms, Robinson is set to face off against Democrat Josh Stein, North Carolina’s state attorney general, in a race to succeed outgoing Governor Roy Cooper. The race is expected to be fiercely contested, with both candidates bringing deeply contrasting visions for the future of the state.
